My story starts overseas, living as an exchange student in Iceland — a place that shaped how I see travel, culture, and adventure. After coming home, I worked as a travel agent in the student travel industry, helping young people see the world. Around that same time, I picked up a fly rod with my dad, not realizing how much fly fishing — and he — would shape the direction of my life.

When 9/11 brought the student travel industry to an abrupt halt, I shifted gears and went to work with my dad. That work took us all over the country in the Outdoor and Active Sports industries, and it meant a whole lot of time spent fishing together. He became both my first fishing-travel partner and the original inspiration behind Tight Line Trips.

Since then, travel has stayed at the center of my life. I’ve visited nearly all 50 states, traveled to four continents, and fly-fished on three of them. My favorite places include the American West, Iceland, Argentina, and just about anywhere in Europe. My wife shares the same love for exploring the world, and now our kids do too — their stamped passports already tell the story.

TLT is the natural blend of everything I care about: fly fishing, family, authentic travel, and helping people explore the world in a meaningful, accessible way.

Hi, I’m Charles, co-founder of TightLineTrips and someone who’s been drawn to the water for as long as I can remember.

I learned to fish from my dad and grandpa. While we didn’t take many big trips in the very early days, the time we spent together outside stuck with me. The real spark came at age 7, when my dad went on a salmon trip with some business associates and came home talking about fly fishing. Something in the way he described it got me hooked. Those early memories and that moment of discovery are a big part of why TLT is meaningful to me.

Since then, fishing has taken me all over the world, including the US Southeast, the Catskills, before expanding to the saltwater flats and jungles of Belize, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and Costa Rica. From there I found myself chasing trout through Montana and Wyoming, exploring the rivers of France, even casting in the Maldives, and a couple of incredible journeys to Alaska, a place that never stops feeling wild and unforgettable.

Each destination has its own personality, and I love helping others find the ones that resonate with them, whether they’re planning a first trip or their fiftieth.

Professionally, I’ve spent most of my career in travel and technology building products, advising companies, and helping people discover better ways to plan and experience trips (or whatever else) through technology. I enjoy solving messy problems, simplifying the complex, and creating tools that make great travel more accessible.

I live in Atlanta with my wife, two kids, and our golden retriever. When I’m not working, I’m usually planning the next trip, with a fly rod or golf clubs not far from reach.
